WASHINGTON — Americans have had a decade-long obsession with dumb blonde jokes. Now blondes are getting the last laugh. At least, Natalia Wolfrom certainly thinks she is.
The Russian immigrant, armed with platinum hair and an MBA, is cashing in on the stereotype with a dumb blonde keyboard.
“We’re really not trying to hurt anybody or hurt anybody’s feeling. As you can see, I am a blonde and I am not offended,” said Natalia Wolfrom, founder of Keyboard for Blondes.
But others might be, especially as the keyboard comes with keys like SOS for sale on shoes and HABM, having a blonde moment.
Some do state the obvious. For example, the escape key says “NO.”
Another change is the F1, F2, and F3 keys. They are gone.
“How many people actually use them? That’s why they are useless,” said Wolfrom.
Even in a gloomy economy, the Keyboard for Blondes is flying off warehouse shelves at $50 a pop.
“At one point, we had five orders a minute being placed,” said Wolfrom.
The keyboards are selling, not just in the United States, but oddly enough in Japan, China, Spain and England.
“Everything is so gloomy and doomy, and this is such a happy gift. I think that’s why it sells really well,” said Wolfrom.
At a time when the big three automakers are asking for bailouts, the entrepreneur is laughing all the way to the bank.
