a popular entertainment web destination for males 18-34, today
announced that it will offer a number of anime properties from Starz
Media’s Manga Ent. The two-year content distribution deal will see
episodes of Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Astro Boy and other popular shows streamed in full-screen on HeavyTV.

“We’ve seen a lot of success with our original anime series, Kung Fu Jimmy Chow,
and decided we needed to give Heavy’s audience the foundational anime
classics courtesy of Manga Ent.,” says Jason Marks, VP of programming
for Heavy. “Manga Ent.’s library is unparalleled in both quality and
depth, and we at Heavy are ecstatic to have been chosen as the online
home for the Heavy generation of anime fans.”

Every week,
HeavyTV will stream one full 25-minute episode and one television
series mashup. The site will also offer one feature-length film and one
film mashup each month. Mashups consist of Manga Ent. content presented
by Heavy’s comedic personalities.

Series to stream on HeavyTV throughout the year include Street Fighter IIV and Virus. Among the feature films included in the deal are Blood: The Last Vampire, Castle of Cagliostro, Dead Leaves, Macross II: The Movie, Read or Die and Street Fighter II: The Movie.

Heavy.com features user-generated content in addition to original programming. In addition to the aforementioned Kung Fu Jimmy Chow, the site’s ad-supported programming staples include Superficial Friends, The Massive Mating Game, Heavy News, Behind the Music that Sucks, Heavy’s Angels, Contagious, Blisster and Tourettes Cowboy.
Portions of Heavy’s library of animation and live-action shorts are
available on Verizon V-Cast, Verizon Fios, Comcast VOD, Tivo, Sony PSP,
Apple iPod and Joost.
